芸術家 新井文月の代表作に加え、甘楽町の歴史と自然から着想を得た新作シリーズと、創作過程を追った映像作品を展示。会期中にはアーティスト本人による１１月２３日（金）ライブペインティング＆アーティストトークも開催。
甘楽町によせて ― 魂の故郷、創作の源泉
侍という存在に惹かれていた幼い頃、私は頻繁にこの地を訪れていました。織田家の血を引く大名が治めた小幡の城下町。その凜とした空気、石畳の道、歴史の重みを肌で感じられる風景は、私の想像力を無限に掻き立てました。それは、後の私の創作活動において、日本の精神文化の根源を探求する旅の原点であったと言えます。
群馬から東京、それから世界へと活動の場を広げ、そして今改めて故郷である群馬に拠点を移す決意をしました。その新たな門出を飾る最初の場所に、この愛すべき甘楽町、そして自然光が美しく差し込む長岡今朝吉記念ギャラリーを発表の場に選ぶのは、私にとって必然でした。
本展では、甘楽町が紡いできた豊かな歴史と文化の記憶を、私なりの解釈で描き出します。土地が持つ象徴的なテーマ—稲含山の神々しいまでの霊性、侍の甲冑からの勇壮なエネルギー、天引諏訪神社で舞う獅子の生命力、そして白倉の山々に潜む天狗の神秘—を、4つの連作として表現します。これは大地に刻まれた人々の祈りの波動をキャンバスに写し取る試みです。この地でしか生まれ得ない、新たなアートの息吹と作品群を、ぜひ体感してください。

作者について
多摩美術大学で情報デザインを学んだ後、芸術家の道へ。2014年のニューヨークでの初個展を皮切りに、その才能は国内外で高く評価されています。彼の作品の根幹には、日本の古神道や修験道といった精神文化への深い探求があります。特に、山中で出会った法螺貝の音に宇宙的な広がりと真理を見出し、そこから生まれた独自のスタイルは、光、生命、そして森羅万象の繋がりを鮮烈に描き出します。
その活動は、2015年にアラブ日本芸術感謝賞を受賞。2024年にはユネスコ・チェアの30周年記念賞を受賞。単なる美術家の枠を超え、文化や思想の領域にまで影響を与える存在として、その動向は常に注目されています。
ギャラリーについて
長岡今朝吉記念ギャラリーは、群馬県甘楽郡甘楽町に位置し、2014年に養蚕農家をモチーフに新築されたもので、長岡コレクションの保管展示場所また地域の文化啓発の場として建設されました。地元の偉人であり美術作品コレクターである長岡今朝吉氏の功績を称えるとともに、アートや地域文化の発信拠点として機能しています。多目的に利用できるギャラリー空間では、地元アーティストの作品展示などが行われ、新進気鋭の芸術家にとっても、地域との接点を持つ重要な場所となります。

メイン展示：代表作と「甘楽」四部作
会場では、新井文月の世界観を凝縮した代表作約20点に加え、本展の核となる甘楽町テーマの新作4点を展示。作家のインスピレーションの源泉から作品が完成するまでを追った、臨場感あふれるメイキング映像も上映します。静的な鑑賞に留まらず、創作のダイナミズムを体感できる空間を演出します。
甘楽町をテーマにした新作4点:
① 稲含山: 古より信仰を集める霊山の、天に抜けるような神聖なエネルギーを描きます。
② 侍の甲冑: 城下町を練り歩いた侍の重厚感と、歴史の重みを色彩の奔流として表現します。
③ 天引諏訪神社の獅子舞: 五穀豊穣を祈る獅子舞の、荒々しくも神聖な生命のエネルギーを捉えます。
④ 白倉の天狗: 人智を超えた存在への畏敬の念を、深山の神秘的な気配と共に描き出します。

会期中、新井文月本人と直接交流できる貴重な機会を設けます。
- ライブペインティング＆アーティストトーク: 法螺貝の荘厳な音色が響く中、真っ白なキャンバスに新たな世界が生まれる瞬間を共有します。制作秘話や甘楽町への熱い想いを、自身の言葉で語ります。

A Message for Kanra: My Spiritual Home, The Fount of My Creation
My journey as an artist began here, in the historic castle town of Obata. As a child, I was captivated by the legends of the samurai, and the air here seemed to carry their spirit. This land became the origin point for my life’s work.
After showing my art around the world, I have returned to my roots in Gunma. It is with deep gratitude that I begin my next chapter in the town of Kanra, at the beautiful Nagaoka Kesakichi Memorial Gallery.
These paintings are an attempt to channel the vibrations of the land and its people. I hope you will come and experience this new body of work, which could only have been created here.

About Fuzuki Arai
After studying Information Design at Tama Art University and working as a web designer, Fuzuki Arai’s inexhaustible passion for creation led him to pursue the path of an artist. Beginning with his first solo exhibition in New York in 2014, his talent has been highly acclaimed both in Japan and internationally. At the core of his work lies a deep exploration of Japan’s ancient spiritual cultures, such as Shinto and Shugendo. In particular, he found a cosmic expanse and truth in the sound of a horagai (conch-shell trumpet) he encountered in the mountains. His unique style, born from this experience, vividly depicts light, life, and the interconnectedness of all things in the universe.
His practice, which traverses tradition and innovation, spirituality and science, was recognized for its “transdisciplinarity” with the 30th Anniversary Award from the UNESCO Chair in 2024. As a figure whose influence extends beyond the boundaries of fine art into the realms of culture and philosophy, his movements are always a focus of attention.
About the Gallery
The Nagaoka Kesakichi Memorial Gallery, located in Kanra Town, Kanra County, Gunma Prefecture, was newly constructed in 2014, inspired by the traditional sericulture farmhouses (silk-producing farmer’s houses) of the region.
It serves as a dedicated space for the preservation and exhibition of the Nagaoka Collection, while simultaneously functioning as a vital center for local cultural enlightenment and outreach. The gallery honors the legacy of Mr. Nagaoka Kesakichi—a respected local figure and significant art collector—and actively promotes art and regional culture.
The versatile gallery space hosts exhibitions of work by local artists, making it an essential platform for emerging artists to connect with the local community and gain exposure.

Exhibition Content Details
Main Exhibition: Major Works and the “Kanra” Tetralogy
The venue will feature about 20 of Fuzuki Arai’s representative works that encapsulate his worldview, alongside the four new pieces on the theme of Kanra that form the core of this exhibition. An immersive video will also be screened, following the artist’s journey from the source of his inspiration to the completion of the works. We will create a space that offers not just a static viewing, but an experience of the dynamism of creation.
- Four New Works on the Theme of Kanra:
- ① Mount Inafune: Depicting the sacred energy of the revered mountain, as if piercing the heavens.
- ② Musha Gyoretsu (Samurai Procession): Expressing the dynamic movement and historical weight of the procession through the castle town as a torrent of color.
- ③ Shishimai (Lion Dance) of Amabii Suwa Shrine: Capturing the fierce yet sacred life force of the Kagura dance for a bountiful harvest.
- ④ Tengu of Shirakura: Portraying a sense of awe for transcendent beings, along with the mystical atmosphere of the deep mountains.

- Live Painting & Artist Talk: Amidst the solemn sound of the horagai, witness the moment a new world is born on a blank canvas. The artist will speak in his own words about the secrets of his creation and his passionate feelings for Kanra.
